Broken tooth at gum line

My back upper tooth broke off at the gumline a year ago but I've been so poor thanks to covid, I could never afford to go to the dentist. Now im finally on my feet again and im pretty sure I have a horrible infection. I have an appointment in a week with my dentist because that's when they could get me in. Im scared of the infection spreading and now my chest is tight. I dont know if its all in my head or what but do you think I'll be fine on ibuprofen until my appointment next week?
