Water for newborn?

Question

Am i wrong for telling my friend that an infant under the age of 6 month old is not supposed to be drinking water as it might be unsafe, But my friend got offended and calls me a purist for that and i don’t know if i am wrong for that as i did not tell her not to feed her child water but i was just sharing what i know with her and she is free to use that information or not its up to her. It was just a comment out of care for a friend that might not know that but now i feel like im wrong for even saying that.

No you are not wrong at all. She can easily kill her baby doing that. Water intoxication can easily happen and baby can/will die from that. She is putting her baby in grave danger giving her/him water. 
I would forward on information regarding water intoxication.

Nope. I told my sister in law the same thing when I saw her putting water in her 3 months old bottle. She chose to ignore my advice. As her parent, that's her choice. If something were to happen, my conscience would be clear for speaking up.

Water intoxication is a huge risk for infants under 6 months and even then after 6 months they don’t really need water they are hydrated through formula or Breastmilk

I thought it was common knowledge not to give a baby that young straight water. She can seriously hurt him/her by giving regular water at that age

No you’re not wrong!! She’s ignoring the fact that it’s not safe . Why is she giving her baby water?!

It’s okay to use a little water time to time. Like if we are out at a festival, it’s hot, and want to give your baby a few sips of water to help hydrate her. 
But her 6 month old shouldn’t be primarily drinking water. Their tummy’s are so small that when they do ingest something it needs to be high in calories. You don’t want your baby getting full on water

The only time a baby under 6 months should be given any extra water, and I’m talking 1 or 2oz a day, is under the direction of a pediatrician for a health related reason. My son had a period where he was always constipated and I was told to give him a little bit of water or prune juice, he wouldn’t drink the juice so I added a little extra water to one bottle as directed. They shouldn’t be drinking water excessively at that age.
