Boyfriend has cold sores, help?

I just discovered last night my boyfriend gets cold sores.

Because of those for at least a week I can’t kiss him, as I could get them as well.

For anyone with a partner who has them or does themselves, what can I do to to help him? It seems like he’s had them for a long time and I’m not heavily uncomfortable with it, it was common in my high school so I’ve always been carful and used to it, but I guess any tips? Does it affect your relationship?

Also, stupid question, can we still have sex? 😅

I ask as last night he wasn’t as touchy, I mean he was in the mood, but didnt make a move. He’s also a major kisser so maybe he just wasn’t in the mood cause he couldn’t kiss or was just uncomfortable.

I still gave him all the snuggles and forehead kisses tho, just so he knew it didn’t bug me.

We have been sexually actively for 3 months, should he have told me this before an outbreak?

I understand cold sores aren’t really an STD, and it wouldn’t have made me not want to date him or have sex, but it would’ve been nice to know.
