6 month old shrieking.

Hey ladies, my son will be 6 months old next saturday. He just learned today he can shriek at the top of his lungs. It is quite ear piercing. Its so cute but it hurts lol. Its when he gets excited he will shriek and vibrate and not sit still. Its definitely not him being upset because he smiles while doing it. I find this is almost preventing him from napping and going to sleep for the night. Hes SO hyper right now and im trying to put him to bed. Is this normal? Or should i be concerned. Anything i can do to calm him?
