does a cervical check hurt

doctors want to do it at my next prenatal i’ll be 36 weeks and some days and i thought this could induce labor ???

It hurt like a motherfucker to me. But honestly they’re elective you don’t have to have them unless there’s some sort of issue they’re checking.

It can't induce labor, but it isn't without risks. There's a small risk of introducing bacteria into the area and rupturing your membranes. Those two reasons alone are enough for me to decline. I think evidence based Birth has an article on cervical checks with info on that. Furthermore, checks are meaningless before labor and indicate nothing about when you'll deliver. And lastly, checks HURT for me. Everyone is different, but for me when I was checked with my first I practically leapt off the table from the pain. I declined all checks with my second until I had to get one to be admitted to the hospital for delivery.

It doesn’t hurt but the midwife does have two fingers ALL the way up there, you can decline if your uncomfortable but depending on the reason for getting one it can be beneficial to know where you are in labor or if labor is close.
