Regular swimmers could you give me some advice , Should I go swimming instead of the gym?

I stand up all day at work which already puts a strain on my legs. But need to keep fit as I've gained a bit of weight as I've gotten into my older 20s. At the minute I go to the gym straight from work and do an hours class or use the gym. This isn't working for me as I'm not enjoying it and don't feel motivated. Plus I've heard if you are suffering with spider veins already you shouldn't lift to heavy or put to much strain. Cardio is better ?

So I'm wanting to Try going swimming 3/4 times a week but I'm worried the chlorine will be bad for my skin. I have quite sensitive dry skin and some acne. How does everyone get on if you are a regular swimmer
