Does gripe water help with constipation in toddlers?

I’m at a loss as to what to do at this point. 
This morning my 20 month old was fussy and not very happy. Her mood would change based on nothing. 
I realised she was constipated when she tried to go and was obviously in pain. She passed a small lump that was pretty solid. She had another one later that was the same. 
Her tummy has been hard all days and she’s been very upset and using her “I’m hurt” cry a lot. 
I tried massages. A warm bath. Bicycle legs. I gave her prunes this morning but that didn’t seem to help. We’ve just given her gripe water and put her down for the night. But I don’t even know if that will help. 
What do I do at this point? My poor baby is hurting

I’ve never heard of gripe water used for anything for a toddler. If she’s passing some 💩, even just small bits throughout the day she will likely be okay. 
Watch out for too much starchy foods like bananas and potatoes. I find raspberries really help my daughter (she won’t eat prunes lol). And really just as much regular water as you can get her to drink.

Once the poop is solid and hard miralax and sorbitol (which is what is in prune-apple juice) won't help very much. A glycerin suppository is the best bet. It comes in a child sized solid suppository or as a liquid in a tiny squeeze bulb. It works fast, so replace the diaper immediately. Stand your kiddo up so they can get some leverage and give some gentle back rubs. Then use prunes as a preventative going forward.
