Birth control to help regulate my cycle?

Has anyone taken birth control to regulate their periods? My cycle is usually pretty regular, but over the past half a year it has been all over the place. Most months it is 33-34 days long, but I’ve had my cycles be anywhere from 19-41 days long. My boyfriend and I are trying to get pregnant, and I am incredibly frustrated with having irregular periods and never truly knowing when and if I’m ovulating. So my question is, is there any advice you can offer me? And have you taken birth control to regulate your cycles before continuing trying to get pregnant? Thanks in advance :)
