Birth story x
Just sharing this so I can have a record of my daughters birth and not forget anything so this will be quite detailed😂
At 41 weeks on 27th June I had a sweep at 10:30am (2cm dilated) and didn’t feel anything from it until about 6pm when I started getting some mild cramps every 20 mins. I had a little bit of bloody mucus and then I became very hormonal and emotional. I kept feeling so annoyed at the people around and felt like I kept wanting to burst into tears. This lasted maybe an hour and then I was alright and the contractions kept coming and became 5 mins apart at around 10pm. I called the hospital and they said it was up to me if I wanted to come and get checked and the pain was getting stronger so we decided to go (but I was close to telling my husband to sleep a couple of hours first). Got to the hospital at about midnight and the midwife examined me and for some reason the exam was so painful and I started crying and and wincing so they gave me gas and air for it. She said that there had been no change to my cervix since my sweep and that I’d have to go home which made me so upset because I was in a lot of pain and didn’t know how I could go home. She gave me some mild painkillers and let me wait half an hour to see if they helped. Over that time the contractions were getting so strong that I was moaning and shouting so the midwife changed her mind and decided I should stay and that they would break my waters in the morning and that it would have to be done in theatre to make sure the umbilical cord didn’t come out. However shortly after that my waters ended up breaking themselves and that’s when things started happening even quicker. The midwife offered me the pethidine injection and I never wanted it before but was so desperate to get out pain so I got it. It just made me even more sleepier than I already was and I couldn’t keep my eyes open at all for at least an hour but was still in pain. I ended up asking for an epidural because the pain was unbearable but the midwife and a nurse couldn’t get a cannula in my hand and the anaesthesiologist was taking a long time so I didn’t have time to get it. Everything was getting really intense and I felt the need to be in all fours on the bed so I went into that position and started pushing. I’ll never forget what a strange feeling it was as it felt like my body was in auto pilot mode and was pushing without my help. I was growling and making so many noises I didn’t even know I could make😂 My little girl was quickly born at 3:14am and was happy and healthy weighing 3.9kg🥰 and I was able to go home 12 hours later. That was completely different from my first baby where I was induced and got an epidural which numbed everything so quite a shock and terrifying how close the midwife was to sending me home only for baby to be born 2 hours later😅
