Which house?

I'm going to be moving soon due to going through a separation. I have my child and dog with me.

My old boss offered me to live in his rental, rent free although I'd pay something each month if he accepted payment ( I can't force anyone too). This is a house so more room.

Or my old complex may have a 1 bedroom become available the beginning of Aug. Perks to that is I'm locked into a place so won't need to look for an apartment later on if/when my boss wants to move back into the place. Downside is, it's obviously much smaller but comfortable for my child, dog, and I.

I don't know which one would be best and would make me look better in court too as far as proving I cam support my child (custody battle will be nasty)
