5 week old doesn’t sleep and spits up
My 5 week old son has started spitting up after every feed, it seems. I breastfeed and supplement with formula afterwards if he’s still hungry because I only make about 2 oz. of breast milk overall each session. Lately, he has been sleeping anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour each time I get him down during the day, but ends up waking up to spit up, even though I burp him consistently throughout feedings. I know he is around that age where spit up can be a normal thing, but even after burping him and keeping him upright after feedings, it seems as soon as I put him to sleep, he ends up not sleeping as well because of having to spit up.
Since he’s so tired after waking up and spitting up, he gets fussy when trying to rock him back to sleep that I practically have to nurse him again to get him to sleep. At night it’s not as bad because I swaddle him and maybe that helps with it, at least he doesn’t spit up as much. But during the day, I’m trying to get him used to sleeping without a swaddle for naps. Should I swaddle him during the day too? I have to swaddle him at night because he will literally wake himself up from the moro reflex when in his bassinet. During the day he naps on our bed with a rolled blanket supporting his hips and legs. He doesn’t seem to flail around as much with a rolled blanket around him. I also have a bad habit of letting him fall asleep next to me in bed before I swaddle him up and move him to the bassinet, but it takes forever to get him to sleep at night otherwise.
