How to start pumping ?

I’ve been ebf for almost 6 weeks and I’m ready to get some milk stashed so other people can feed him too. (Yes I I know about pace feeding). How do I go about pumping when should I ? I’m honestly nervous about possible engorgement and nipple pain.

I used haaka to collect while BF, and added in an additional pump session every night after baby was asleep. Got me a decent stash. Then, anytime baby ate (if someone else was feeding) I would make sure to pump around the same time to keep my supply up.

You don’t need that big of a stash. So once a day pumping is just enough. Or a few times week. Best chance to get milk for stash is right after the first morning nursing session. Between the hrs of 2-6am you have the highest prolactin levels in your body, therefore having the highest milk amount.

There are a few options. Night/early morning are usually when you’ll have the highest milk production. You could pump immediately following a feed, or halfway between feeds. You could also try just using a milk collector (like a Haakaa or Elvie Curve) on the side you’re not feeding on; many people are able to build a really good stash that way without increasing their milk supply too much, and it doesn’t take up any additional time.
