My boyfriend and I really want a baby but I don’t make much money. My boyfriend also doesn’t at the moment but he is getting sent to a training class either this month or next and will be getting almost double what he currently gets paid and more hours which would put us in a better situation. Things aren’t bad now. We easily afford bills, rent, pets, groceries, and so on but I know a baby would cause our monthly expenses to go up

i personally wouldn’t have a baby with someone that just wanted to be my boyfriend and we didn’t have money in savings. it cost about 8k to have our son plus then monthly after expenses

Get completely financially stable before you have a baby. It’s the best plan.

Look up the average cost of having a kid and plan accordingly. I would personally get married first as both relationship satisfaction and over all outcomes for children are better in marriage than in co-habitation. If you’re committed enough to each other to bring a life into this world you should be committed to getting married. Having a baby is an even bigger commitment than marriage.

No one can tell you but you and your partner on what's best for the both of you. For some, marriage is a must, others don't care either way, some want stable careers while others wing it, some want both parents working while others choose one partner to be a stay at home parent etc. These are all VERY personal choices that only you can decide on which is best for you and your situation. Figure out childcare first. The cost of newborn childcare in my area is 1450 per month. Who will watch your baby or can you afford to stay home?

You just need to make sure you have financial stability. Paying bills is great, but personally if I don’t have at least 3-6 months of expenses saved up in the event something happens I don’t feel comfortable financially. A reliable vehicle, safe home, childcare situated, good insurance, and relationship stability are necessary to me as well. Being married or not just depends on your personal preference and isn’t a requirement, shit still happens regardless and marriage doesn’t always equal more stable relationships.

We don’t know you or your whole situation so we can’t tell you. If you want to and think that’s the best thing for you and your life then go for it. I’d personally at least wait for my bf to go through the training and get the raise first and then decide.
