Cleaning the foam part of the bassinet mattress?

Hey mommas, I’m currently taking apart and cleaning the bassinet we used 3 years ago for our son so we can use it for our daughter. When taking off the cover for the mattress I discovered the foam insert has a gross smell and has what appears to be mold. I thoroughly cleaned everything before we packed it away but it was sitting in the basement so I’m guessing that’s the reason it’s like this. Is there a way for me to safely clean this, get rid of the mold, and make sure it dries fully? I’m not finding information for the foam part itself when looking at the manual.

Thanks everyone, I was hesitant about getting mold completely out of foam in the first place and you all confirmed my thoughts. Of course our bassinet has “special dimensions” so all the replacements I’ve looked for on I swear every website I can think of won’t work😂 I contacted the manufacturer about getting it replaced, haven’t received a reply yet and it’s been a week but we will hang out for a little while longer and if we don’t hear anything back we will just replace the bassinet. Super unfortunate but we want what’s best for our baby and we luckily still have a couple months before she gets here.

Mold is a scary thing to play around with. What you can see on the surface is not always all that’s there either

Can you order a replacement? It can be hard to get mold out fully and I’d be really cautious about having molded items anywhere near your kids, especially a sleeping space. 
You can potentially remove mold from items using a solution of equal parts rubbing alcohol and warm water. Soak a cleaning cloth or sponge in the solution, and scrub in small circles over the moldy area. You can also use a small cleaning brush. 
Another thing you can try is doing the same thing with a solution of 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts warm water. 
If you can’t get everything off, or if you have any suspicion it could be on the inside part of the foam vs just the exterior, then I would dispose of it.

Throw it away and buy a new one. Mold is not to be messed with when it comes to items that are replaceable. Especially porous items like this

Sooo maybe you could find a bigger replacement and just cut it the size you need it? Would probably be cheaper than buying a new bassinet? It doesn't have to be perfectly cut, since it won't be seen, right? ((:

I wouldn't play with mold, especially on foam or a mattress. You might get the surface mold out but won't be able to tell if there is some inside the middle of the foam. I would look anywhere that bassinet is/was sold and see if there is a replacement mattress. I'd start with Amazon and look through the FAQ section. Someone is bound to have asked if they sell a replacement mattress.

I would just get rid of it and find a replacement. Mold is not safe for a baby.
