Bled during sex? Period ?

My period is due in 4 days and me and my husband had sex tonight and noticed during that I was bleeding, light amount mixed with discharge covered him. It wasn’t dripping or anything or a ton over the sheets. But when I wipe its fresh red blood like lightly smeared on toilet paper but not enough for a pad. Could this have caused some bleeding because I’m close to getting my period or is this something that doesn’t happen to anyone that’s normal. Any insight will help calm my worries.
