Painful fetal movement and unhelpful MIL advice
My baby shower this Saturday is being held by my MIL. I originally didn’t really want one because I have no family in this state, so it would be a bunch of people I don’t really know at all. She just started planning it tho and I figured that if I don’t feel up to it I can leave early. Sounds rude, I know, but I didn’t want this and she knew that and hasn’t asked for anything from me except the link to the registry, so I don’t feel too terrible. Also, she’s incredibly overbearing so we don’t get along all the time.
My boyfriend is super introverted so he’s not the most excited about having to spend hours with his very overbearing family at a park outside in the summer in the South US. He is on board and ready if I end up wanting to leave early. Lmao
Anyways, this week I’m 32 weeks and baby boy’s movements have become painful if I sit down because he stretches his arms out and it just puts so much pressure on the very bottom of my belly. But also if I stand, my hip goes numb and then starts to feel painful from sciatica. I mostly lay down. I mentioned this today to MIL when she asked how I was feeling. She goes “oh no, you’ll have to just pretend like you’re fine for the baby shower.”
My boyfriend heard this and was like “Nah if we need to go, we’ll go.” Her response? “Oh suck it up! pregnancy is never easy and women have been doing it forever without the accommodations you all have today. Be grateful you can have a fan on you at the shower.”
Well fuck now I don’t wanna go. Lmfao I’m leaning toward going and leaving within a half hour or just not going at all. I know that if I don’t go at all, it gives her an excuse to come over to drop off the gifts. Knowing her, she would just show up, too.
I just am exhausted and very uncomfortable. This is a very big baby (weighing 3.5 lbs at 28 weeks, and I know it’s not the most accurate but the tech said he was definitely large and long) and I’m only 5’0. I’m also very iron deficient, so I am not having the best time.
So there ya go. Lmao wish me luck!
