Sleep regression drains all fun

Do

My toddler used to go to sleep with a routine and sleep in his own crib. We could lay him down awake, say good night and leave the room.

Lately it takes one of us parents to lay down with him until he is fully asleep. Often we end up falling asleep with him and don't get any free time in the evening.

It's so draining that the little "adult" time we get together is drained away by these long bedtimes. But we are also too exhausted and emotional about sleep training at this point. Hearing my toddler call "I am really sad!" from his room is killing me. I'm so lost and confused.

He also wakes up once a night and then my partner will usually sleep next to him until the morning.
