Not NIPT testing?

Question

When the midwife asked if we wanted NIPT testing we both said no but we really haven’t talked about it. Thoughts on getting it vs not?

I would and have changed the route of my pregnancies due to health issues with the child. I think it’s definitely worth while.

I think it’s great. It helped us know to save for the care our son now has and educate ourselves too well before hand. I know many people don’t get it because they say they will love the baby no matter what and while I get that, you also need to be realistic.

I didn’t get it done with my twins or my daughter because it wasn’t covered by my insurance or Medicaid.  I got it done with this baby because it’s now covered, and I’m glad I did because it’s nice knowing the information so early on.  My results say my baby is low risk for everything they tested, and she’s a girl. 💖💖

I’m a first time mom too.
Honestly it’s a very personal decision. For us, we wanted to know before hand if baby was “healthy”, no chromosomal abnormalities, that gave us a peace of mind.
I actually just got my results and everything is good! We also just found out we are expecting a baby girl ❤️❤️❤️

I had it done with all 3 of my previous and plan to get this one done in the next couple of days (I'm 10w1d today) I'm a planner, so knowing if there's any issues before will definitely help preparation 😊

This is my 4th and we didn’t do it with any of our babies. I didn’t want something more to stress about. I didn’t want to get a “low risk” result and worry about MORE what ifs than most moms do. I truly understand why some may want the opportunity to prepare if there are bad results. I just approached it with the “it will be what it will be attitude”. My step sister had something come up on their results that printed further testing. The 3 weeks between the first test results and second were horrible for her. Everything came out ok but for me, I don’t want to go through that.

I’ve gotten it in all my pregnancies. If something were to come up wrong it wouldn’t make a difference in my choice to continue the pregnancy but it would be nice to know if the baby will have any issues so you can prepare and expect certain medical things that might need to be done. Just my opinion.

I got it with my previous pregnancies and will be getting it this pregnancy as well. They just take a small blood sample, it’s quick and easy in my opinion, but I don’t usually have issues with getting my blood drawn. 
It tests for chromosome abnormalities in your baby and a few other things I believe. But always do your own research and do what makes you comfortable.

I didn’t get it because I couldn’t afford it. It would have been nice to know because it would help me prepare after birth in the case something was wrong but I would never have chosen to not continue a pregnancy so I didn’t really mind not getting it.

My insurance paid for it, but I would’ve paid for it out of pocket. My ex knows zilch about his medical history and never went to the doctor, so I wanted to be as prepared as possible.
