Cold sore medication

So I get cold sores a few times a year. I had a script from my family doctor but it ran out. We moved so I went to a urgent care for a script because I had one come up this morning. My family doctor prescribed it for 2 tablets 12 hours apart for 1 day. Which meant 2 pills and then 12 hours later 2 more and I was done. Well the urgent care doctor prescribed it for 1 tablet twice daily for a week. Why for a week? Even online it says for cold sores it's 2 pills 12 hours apart for 1 day. Thoughts? I think I might just take 2 pills and 12 hours later the last 2 and be done.
