Benefits of collecting colostrum? Can it help my supply later on?

This is my 2nd baby and I really wanna give breast feeding another shot, with my first I had so much trouble producing and I keep seeing people collecting colostrum and would like some more information about it! Here are my questions 
1.what are the benefits ?
2.When did you start collecting ? 
3.Did it help your milk supply come in faster? 
4. If I start collecting and can’t produce can I mix with formula to get some of the benefits ? 
5. What other reasons is it used for?

I did not collect with my first two. Collecting colostrum can help if you’re not producing enough after birth before your milk comes in, so they baby can eat it and not formula. Most the time this won’t be necessary though. It will not have an impact on how your milk comes in. You shouldn’t express colostrum until like 36 weeks, or maybe even 37, because nipple stimulation can cause labor.

I never collected with any of my pregnancies so I don’t have advice in that aspect, but For breastfeeding I’d say nurse on demand especially at first and hydrate. My milk came in after a couple days with both

Your milk supply won't come in until after your placenta detatches. It's usually not recommend.
