Starting a new job at 13 weeks

Tasha

I currently only work part time and they do not offer any kind of benefits including maternity leave. I also hate the type of work I do (call center type) so I have been looking for a new job since i got this one. I have an interview today for a full time position that will offer benefits and better pay, but I'm worried that if I tell them right away that I'm pregnant, they won't hire me. So, should I wait until after I sign all paperwork before telling them? I'm certain they are going to be hiring me based on the fact that I was hired there years ago, but had been offered a position with a different company first that I had accepted, so I turned out down last time. Plus, they already removed the job posting 😅 Should I wait for a few weeks? maybe after training? Training will be 4 weeks and I'm pretty sure I can hide my growing middle fairly well (since I will forever have a "pooch" from my previous pregnancies)

I honestly wouldn’t say anything. If it doesn’t effect your ability to do the job it isn’t any of their business. If you were high risk or have multiple appointments or things you know for a fact that they would need to accommodate.. sure.. but otherwise my opinion is none of their business.

I’ll admit, I’m a bit naive when it comes to maternity leave/fmla, but I thought you had to be with a company for 12 months to qualify for those benefits?? Please, correct me if I’m wrong!! I’ve been with my company for 8 years so it wasn’t something I had to navigate. As far as telling them, I’d use your best judgement. My company hired a woman who did tell us she was pregnant until after onboarding 🤷🏻‍♀️ If you being pregnant isn’t going to affect the job (I.e. heavy lifting), then it might not be something you need to mention?

Thanks! I really hope it's 6 months. If not, I have a few back up plans. Ie saving up sick time and pto time and possibly short-term disability. On top of taxes, I might be OK without maternity pay. But we will see!

Oh! That would be great if it were 6 months!! I’m hoping for the best - that’s the last thing we should have to worry about when making a human, but that’s life I guess 😅 best of luck with everything!!!

It depends on the company, I guess. Some companies offer leave after 6 months, and some after 12. If it's 6 months, I have no issues because I'll be right about that long and since I'm due right around tax time, Ican supplement my income with that until the leave goes into effect. And no heavy lifting. Thank you for responding
