IUD side effects & sex

Hi y’all so I’ve been seeing someone for a few months (3 weeks together, 2.5 months long distance). I have never had sex but I want to with him. One problem tho, I got an iud at the end of June and I’ve had a lot of issues with irregular bleeding and cramping. I briefly talked about this with him last night and he was literally so incredible and said we can wait as long as I need and will help me track everything if that would help me. If it were up to me I would have sex with him today but I’m spotting constantly and it’s so gross because it’s brown clotted blood and that is so not sexy I feel like. But everyone I’ve talked to has said this can last up to a year after getting it implanted. Do I wait to have sex? Or do I ask him if he’s comfortable having sex with me spotting like that? I just feel kinda embarrassed even tho I know I have nothing to be ashamed about.
