How long does birth control take to regulate periods from PCOS?

I know this question may be for my doctor,but I figured someone might have been in the same boat as I am before. 
I have been on birth control since May 2022 to regulate my periods from PCOS. 
I don't know exactly how long it takes for your cycle to become regular again,but I would like to get pregnant again next year. 
Does birth control make you have ovulation,and if not what does? I know taking basal temperature is part of the ovulation progress,but do you temp during period and the whole month every single day? 
What vitamins or supplements helps with ovulation or to make you have ovulation? 
My ob GYN advise me to have another baby before I turn 40, which I'm 35 now,but anyway. He also said he didn't know if I could get pregnant again and that my son may be my miracle baby. If I can't get pregnant again,then my doctor suggested having hysterectomy. 
I want to have another baby which I always wanted a girl,but I will take whatever God gives me.

Birth control regulating period as in what?? Birth control won’t regulate your cycles. It gives you a fake “ period”and stops your body from ovulation. the only way birth control MAY help pcos is by minimizing or getting rid of the cysts on your ovaries. If you are actively trying to get pregnant and having irregular periods due to pcos it likely means you aren’t ovulating regularly or at all. Typically the first step would be trying for a year and if no success there than next is some blood work and other testing. They can prescribe provera (induces a period) and then clomid or letrozole (helps body ovulate) but it really all comes down to what your blood work says. This may not even be your issue. However without your dr doing all of this it’s insanely wrong of him/her to assume you that you may need a hysterectomy! If you haven’t already I highly recommend getting off birth control and seeing a specialist. Best of luck!

It never has for me. My cycles are more often than the 2-3 times a year, but they're still very irregular.

So I have PCOS, I’ve been on and off Birth control for years, my cycle never regulated, even on it, still wasn’t regular. 
I tried many vitamins, to help me ovulate and what not, when I was ttc, nothing worked. I went to a fertility specialist, did three rounds of letrozole, none worked BUT we took a one month break from treatments due to Christmas holidays, and I got pregnant naturally, the letrozole must’ve regulated my body. Then after my first was born I came off birth control at 6 months pp, thinking it would take at least a year to get pregnant, nope I was pregnant my first cycle. 
I would suggest seeking fertility treatment, a simple dose of letrozole or clomid could be all you need!
