Was this my fault?

So my phone has been playing up for a few weeks and I’ve been needing to get it fixed but holding off until I get paid, so I’ve asked a few shops how much they’d charge to repair it and had different quotes so I was in town today, popped into a new one and asked him how much he would charge to repair it and said I was asking a few stores , he said he was busy at current but leave the phone and come back in half hour and he’d have a look at it and give me a quote so I did, went to grab a few things, come back and he said he’d repaired it and it would be £98, and i was like woah no no no no I didn’t need you to repair it I just wanted a quote I don’t have the money to have it repaired right now, in which turned into a huge argument and debate. I asked him to remove the piece he’d put into it as I couldn’t pay it today, he kept insisting he can’t because he threw away the old piece, saying it was impossible and I had to pay. I kept saying to him I didn’t want him to fix it, I only wanted a quote, in the end It become very aggressive from him and he began threatening to smash up my phone if I didn’t pay; so I took my phone from the counter and left. I feel awful about it like I’ve just committed theft which I think I have but I really made it so clear I don’t want it to be repaired. I just need a quote, and after how aggressive he become I removed myself instantly, I had my 1 year old with me at the time too. I expect to have a visit from police soon but I feel awful about it. Was this my fault?
