Is this normal?

I use super flow pads bc I have a very heavy flow. The first few days of my period, if I leave my pad on for a few hours, when I go to change it it will be completely soaked from back to front. Is this normal or should I go to a doctor?

I have a 7 day period. I only use overnight pads. The entire time. I go through them about every two hours. Soaked. I bleed a lot. The first 3-4 days are very clotty and very painful. It's not normal, but I haven't had time to go in and talk to my OB about it. I've dealt with it my entire life. Well 12 to 32. So I just keep dealing with it, but I know it's not normal.

If you are soaking a pad every hour to two then see a doctor.

“Normal” is a very loaded word. It sounds like your period is unusually heavy the first few days. It may be “normal” for your body, or it may not be. Only your doctor can tell if there is something unusual and help you to make it more manageable.
Extremely heavy periods are not unusual the first year or two after menarche (your first period), or during peri-menopause (the few years before menopause).
With heavy blood loss, making sure that you get enough iron in your normal diet or with a woman’s supplement is important. Iron in your blood helps carrying oxygen, and when you lose blood, it may cause fatigue and tiredness. Taking an iron supplement should give you back some of your energy.
