Would you use Ollie as a nickname for Oliver?

Question

I absolutely love the name Oliver but both my husband and I hate the nick name Ollie. And I feel like if we use the name Oliver people will ignore the fact that we don't like the nickname Ollie. And my mother in law and her mother have both already made it clear "that they think Ollie is cute and will just use it anyways because ItS jUsT a NiCkNaMe!" 
Personally I find this to very rude and disrespectful, we choose a name because we love it and want to USE THAT NAME TO CALL OUR CHILD if we wanted to use a nick name then we would have put that on the birth certificate. Also it's not their child and they didn't help make the child or deliver this child so I feel like it's not even something that should come out of their mouths! 
This being said it makes me want to not even use this name because I don't want him to be called Ollie!

He’s going to be called Ollie. You can’t control other people. You name a kid Matthew and he’s going to be called Matt sometimes. You can only call him Oliver but you can’t choose what other people call your kid.

My son’s name is Oliver. I call him Ollie, Ollicado because I craved avocados when I was pregnant, and and Olligator. Also, when I call for him I say “Ollie, Ollie, Oxen, free!” 😂

Yea, you’re going to have to pick a new name if you have a belt w Ollie. It’s likely inevitable. I find nicknames endearing. My daughter is named Ruby, my dad calls her Ruby Doobie. I really don’t love it, but who cares. It’s sweet. Her daycare teacher calls her Ruby Dube. Again. I don’t live it, but appreciate that she cares enough about my daughter to give her a nickname.

Call him Oliver and stick to your guns when he's called "ollie". Simply correct everytime and say "his name is Olliver, not ollie" eventually they'll get sick of being corrected. My son is Anthony and ppl tried for a while with Tony. I was like nope not his name use HIS name.

Oliver’s are known for being called Ollie. I think a lot of names are shortened and add the “y or ie” sound at the end without even meaning to. 
We named our son dallas and never in a million years thought we’d say “dally” but we do. Then we caught on and stopped as he got bigger because it’s not a cute name lol. But people say what they want regardless. Our pets we do the same, Bow is Bowie, Creed is Creedy, Groot is Grooty. I think it’s just a habit if it’s able to have that sounding. Niece is Oakley and we say Oaky.

I named my son Bennett and asked that everyone refrain from calling him Ben. I was okay with Benny but not Ben. Thankfully my family doesn't call him Ben but I think it'll be more of an issue when he's older. I call him Bennett.

Unfortunately you can’t choose what other people nickname your child. I think it’s rude that family would do that even after you expressed you don’t like it; but it won’t prevent other people from calling him that. If you hate the nickname Ollie that much, I would find another name

You seem pretty angry. At the end of the day, your child will leave your home (daycare, school, whatever) and this may happen. You really need to choose another name if you’re going to be so angry.
