BMI considered high risk?

Monday I finally get my first appointment. I’ll be almost 10 weeks! Two doctors wouldn’t take me because they said my BMI was too high. My starting weight was 252. I’m currently 248. I have hypo thyroid. So I am nervous what the doctor will say. 
Is it normal now for A high BMI to be considered high risk pregnancy?

My bmi is 42 (241 lbs) and not a single doctor or any of my paperwork has categorized me as high risk in any of my 3 pregnancies.

If you're BMI is over 35, you're considered high risk. I'm also 248lbs and considered high risk cause my BMI is 39

It would make you high risk for pre eclampsia, having a c-section, preterm labor, organ failure from pregnancy, gestational diabetes, anesthesia problems. So yes it would make you higher risk is this your first baby? Some doctors are willing to take high risk patients others don’t want the liability or work load associated. Some will limit the amount of high risk patients they have. Midwives usually won’t take high risk unless they work with a hospital, some not at all. Usually if you have had success and uncomplicated births in previous births they are more likely to take you.

I never heard of it. They didn’t say what my BMI was. Just in high risk
