Is your child talking/saying words?

My 15 month old understands most of what we say but he isn’t saying words himself. He just had his 15 month appointment and was referred for speech therapy. Has anyone else experienced this? He’s my first.

We are on two word sentences (all done, glasses on, come here, I love you etc) my first at the same age was on two letter words at this age, (mama, yay, lots of babbles) she’s now an excellent speaker and reader with no issues at all. “Delayed” doesn’t always mean they will have issues going forward. We do lots of encouraging, when kiddo wants up we say “ok say up” and the second anything comes out close to the word up or not we say yay celebrate and pick her up.  We also talk to her constantly which I think helps a tonne. Show them objects and ask them to repeat you, talk through every activity and have conversations with them as much as you can! My little also likes to sing (she can’t quite yet of course) but it makes her super happy to do it and she tries, maybe some songs?

I also have a cousin who didn’t speak forever!! Then got up one day when she was two and started with full sentences 🤷‍♀️ we are all so different, good luck!

My first born started talking when he was 36 months but before it was just one words to be honest kids are different some speak early

Little guy says a lot of words but not very clearly. Upstairs, outside, eat, ball, daddy (rarely ever calls for me 😭), diaper is "die", bubble, and the newest is yes and up. Another toddler I know says his words super clear, but he has an older brother. Babies all talk at their own pace, so I wouldn't be too worried. You can always get a second opinion if you want, but our babies are pandemic babies, so there was way less interaction for them to have learned from. I constantly talk to my baby since we're always together and I'm fortunate to be able to work from home part time. It's the same with babies with older siblings since they're going to learn a lot faster than if they're the only child or not interacting with older kids.

He understands a loot and babbles all day, but no consistent words yet. He says 'ba' for banana, 'me' for more and a few other things like that. Our pediatrician is not concerned at all, I wouldn't worry until 2ish or so. He is also raised trilingual, so I am happy if he can talk by the time he turns 6 :D
Try not to compare to others and just celebrate each little milestone ((: every person has their own pace!

When my husband took my son to the 15 month appointment we were told he wasn’t talking enough. We were told sign language didn’t count as words either. A week or so later we saw a Pediatric doctor who had zero concerns of his speech and told me sign language does count, so I’m feeling all over the place with what is right so I’m just going with it.

I lied. He has one word. Saw speech at 14 months. He’s behind. She said significantly delayed 6-9 months. Unfortunately where we live he’s on a year waiting list for speech. Great fun. Don’t stress too much
