Poppy as a boy name?

We love the name for a girl, and haven’t found anything we like as much for a ‘boy’ name. Middle name suggestions welcome too!

Poppy for a boy comes off as “Papi” in Spanish, which creeps me out. 😅 Like calling a little boy “daddy”.

If you wanted something connected to ‘Poppy’, that is more typically a gender neutral name, Avery (pap-aver) could be a cute option.

I’m from the South, and Poppy is a common name in a lot of areas. But, it is usually a girl’s name. Don’t take all of the comments to heart, especially if you like the name. That’s the only thing that matters because your baby isn’t our baby if that makes sense. If you and your partner like the name Poppy, roll with it, but we also have to keep in mind the reactions our child will get from the name. (Speaking as someone whose first name is Ethel, but my parents loved the name, so that’s all that matters.)

It’s not my favorite for a boy, but to each his own 🤷‍♀️
I will say I have a student named Poppy, and while I think it’s an incredibly cute name, I have several co-workers who have said that they constantly see the name and mistake it for “Poopy.” Just something to consider.

Poppy is usually short for Penelope. I think it’s super cute for a girl but definitely not for a boy.
