Newborn gassy
Hi there.
My baby girl is almost 1 month. She has been only breastfed up until last week when we started combo feeding. We are using gentle ease enfamil . We plan to transition to straight formula. Basically this is how it’s been going.
When she is hungry I breastfeed her but she is no longer wanting to stay latched for very long. Sometimes 5 minutes, other times 10. She used to stay latched (a good latch too) for as long as she needs. Now she gets frustrated and starts crying. So then I give her a bottle of formula. I give her breaks, tip it up, burp her during and after. She hardly spits up and will usually burp. Then she is satisfied .
However the past few days she has been very gassy and passing gas a lot. She has always been gassy but I think now it’s causing discomfort. Recently her toots have been very very smelly. They never used too. I’m assuming it’s the adjustment to formula. However now it’s like she constantly is smelling. She has periods of time where the gas really bothers her and cries until she can relieve it. Her tummy also felt kind of hard during the night.
Her poops are yellow / green and either runny / watery or like a little mushy. She enjoys sleeping on her tummy on my chest but obviously I can’t let her sleep like that all night. I have tried gas drops but honestly either they didn’t help or caused discomfort because she was much more agitated when I tried them. She is wanting to eat more but I feel bad because I think the formula adjustment is taking a toll on her.
I’m not a first time mom but my son never had this problem and I don’t know what else to do if there is anything I can do? I do bicycle legs and rub her belly also.,
I plan to message her doctor but thought I would ask here too.
Thanks!
