Feel like I’m going to get in trouble at work.. 🫣

So I’m a para. I work with a child who’s in a wheelchair. At the start of the school year he was always late, sometimes close to two hours late, because his mom had to drop him to school on public transportation. Last week he finally got a school bus. He got to school super early, earlier than me, and then he left as soon as school ended, I would put him on the bus. Yesterday, his school bus apparently broke down on his way to school. I was told that he was coming but he would be late. At the end of the day when I took him to his bus, they weren’t there. I told the principal and he literally shrugged his shoulders… I guess that meant “just wait for it”? The other kid who takes the school bus with mine had his para call his mom and his mom said she would pick him up. It became time for me to clock out and he was still waiting. I asked somebody In the main office about the bus situation and she told me to speak with the principal, who before offered no help. So I clocked out and I left. I called his mom and told him that he was still in school. I gave her the school phone number and I told her to call and ask if he was was going to be put on his regular bus, a different bus, or if she needed to pick him up. Although I know I did right by the parent because she should know that her son isn’t on his way home, and that he arrived late in the morning, I feel like this might get me in trouble. I don’t know I feel like they’re ganna think I made them look bad or something?? I may be stressing out for no reason but I don’t think they’ll be happy with me.

I left him in the cafeteria with ADULTS that conduct dismissal and late pickups. Before he started taking a school bus, we would wait in the cafeteria and he would stay there until being picked up, whether I was there or not.

Some of you really can’t read. I’m not worried that I didn’t do my job because I know I did. I do more than what I’m even supposed too. I was worried that the school would be upset that I informed the mother his bus had broke down and it never showed up for pick up as they never told her, nor were they going too. I’m good at my job and my job is secured, thank you! Maybe some of you need to switch places with these students.
