Metformin for Gestational Diabetes

Has anyone been prescribed metformin for their gestational diabetes?

If yes, what were the circumstances and how did it work? I see multiple OB's in one office and 1 of the 6 mentioned it as an insulin alternative(said it CAN be taken with meals). I have a major fear of needles and if it works that's what I'd go with. I've been doing research and it seems safe and effective. One study showed it helped with preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction (I have this also) I just want some personal feedback from those who have used it. Maybe he's a quack 🤷 maybe he's on to something 🤷
