Late positive test

So my period is already ~5 days late, I tested right before my period and it was BFN.

I’ve had: broken blood vessels on my boobs, hot sweats, HORRIBLE acid reflux and now I have a bad head cold. My doctor thought I was pregnant and took a test weeks ago, never gave me results.

I know I will retest again soon, but has anyone gotten negatives right before period and only got positives after missed period? Have I been testing too early?
