Before I start I should say that I'm 24 years old, and I still live with my mother. To me we don't have the closest or best relationship but I still love and respect her.

I've been with my boyfriend for 3 months. He's the first one I've had in fact. And I feel like I'm ready to give him my virginity. I'm scared to be this intimate with anyone but I trust him. I don't take this decision lightly. I'm planning on talking with my doctor about going on birth control again and seeing if I need to get tested for STIs just in case. I'm trying to be extremely careful.

The problem then comes with me wanting to tell my mother. I want to be honest and let her know about something as big as this but I'm scared about what her reaction will be. Am I overreacting? Will she care? Should I even tell her? I'm an adult and the only consent I need is mine and my partners but still...
