Accidentally unmediated labor
I’m finally getting a chance to get this all down after a month!
My son was due October 9 but after having severe pelvic pain we decided on an induction on the 2nd, baby had a very different plan though. I woke up on Sunday September 25 with what felt like contractions after having BH for weeks. I kept watch on how long they were and how far apart. They never got more than 8 minutes apart so I tried my best to continue my regular plans. Monday afternoon, after my contractions getting to 6 minutes apart for 1 minute each, I called my OB who suggested I come in for a membrane sweep to speed up the labor process to avoid the induction. She felt my cervix and told me I was 3cm and 80% effaced and sent me home to labor there.
By 8pm my contractions were 5 minutes apart for 1 minute each and super painful so we decided to go to L&D.
They checked my cervix, no change from earlier. They hooked me up to the monitors to track my contractions and saw that I was having intense contractions. They had me on the monitor from 8:30pm until 1:30am and I had not progressed at all and they were going to discharge me to labor at home some more. As I stood up to get dressed my water broke and I lost my mucus plug at the same time (on my husbands shoes). They admitted me right then and my contractions intensified by 100x. I threw up 3 times, passed out once while getting my IV put in and my sons heart rate dropped dangerously low every contraction.
Since my sons heart rate dropped so many times they gave me pitocin and amniofluid to keep him healthy and to speed up labor. My contractions were now every 2-3 minutes and still super intense. The anesthesiologist was in a surgery and couldn’t make it to give me the epidural until I was 9.5cm dilated. 30 minutes after the epidural got put in, I needed to push and 7 pushes later my baby boy was born. I felt every contraction and didn’t feel any relief until my second push.
I got to the hospital at 8:15pm on the 26th and Karson Graham was born at 4:50am on the 27th weighing 6lbs. 11oz and measuring at 18.5 inches.
