HSG vs MRI
Hello ladies,
I’m 31 and I have PCOS. My RE performed SIS (Saline Infused Sonogram) in last December to check my uterus and Fallopian tubes. Result came out normal and it said both of tubes are patent. We proceeded with IUI in the same cycle and I ended up getting pregnant with ectopic pregnancy on my right side. Resolved it with Methotrexate without removing my right tube.
Waited for few months after MTX and decided to try again. My RE ordered a HSG test this time to get a better view of tubes. Turns out my right tube has mild hydrosalpinx at the fimbrial end but is still open and my left tube is completely blocked. The dye did not even enter left tube and that’s how they confirmed it is totally blocked. My doctor said my right tube must be removed to avoid future miscarriages and IVF is the safest option I’m left with but egg retrieval should be performed before they remove my right tube to get maximum number of eggs and referred to me to another RE due to insurance issues with IVF coverage.
My new RE(also my current doctor) wanted a pelvic MRI to get a better idea of my reproductive system. MRI result said no Hydrosalpinx identified but there are endometrial implants surrounding my uterus. So endometriosis is confirmed which probably explains my previous ectopic. But presence of hydrosalpinx is still a question since my current RE thinks MRIs are not very good at capturing Fallopian tubes.
We proceeded with IVF treatment and retrieved eggs. The next step is to schedule a surgery to remove my right tube and probably remove those endometriosis implants. I’m worried whether it is worth to proceed with surgery and whether that Hydrosalpinx really exists. I wanted to know if anyone has a similar story where MRI and HSG results are contradicting each other.
