BF& pumping routine

☀️

Hi- FTM. I’ve been almost exclusively breast feeding my 6 week old, but he was hungry every hour and mentally/physically I just needed to take a break. He has had bottles here & there, but today I decided that I’m going to try pumping/bottle feeding through the day, and feeding by breast at night. Last night right before he went down I gave him a 5.5 ounce bottle, and he slept for almost 5 hours! Before he would wake up every hour or so to eat. Doctor said this was great because I was concerned and called lol. So far today ( we woke up at 9 am and it’s 3pm now) he has had four bottles that are 2-3 ounces and he’s been sleeping for most of the day right after eating. Again, unheard of because he was awake most of the day before when we were just EBF and eating every hour. I’m an over to-average supplier, so I’m not sure if he just wasn’t getting enough per feed due to being “lazy” and not wanting to latch for any longer, or because he would fall asleep on the breast almost every time. He would only ever eat for about 10 minutes and would refuse to stay on longer most of the time.

ANYWAY, when should I be pumping during the day? Today I would give him a bottle with milk I have in the freezer, then pump right after to kinda keep up with my milk supply so it doesn’t go down. Should I still pump at night after breast feeding too? He doesn’t get everything out and I always wake up soaked in milk. I decided to keep with breast at night because it seems way easier so I don’t have to leave our room for bottle supplies, and I do like the bonding experience. Thank you& sorry for long post!
