When to start the mini pill

I am starting to take the mini pill and am wondering if I should wait to start it till I get my period, or if I can start taking it before I get my period.

I was told it’s best to start on the first day of your period due to the fact that you wouldn’t be having any sex during that week as it takes up to a week to be effective. It’s fine to start not on period just make sure you are using another form of protection until then
