Can you smell when people use a fire place to heat their home?

I feel like I always smell like fire smoke, and I can’t tell if other people can smell it or not

I smell it in their home as a pleasant aroma, but as far as smelling smoke on their clothes or something, no, haven’t ever noticed that. 
Campfire smoke totally different story lol

A wood burning fireplace no.  But a woodburning stove yes.  I'm not sire why the difference.

Wood stove yes, we have one and my husbands jacket always smells like it. Fireplace no, I’ve never noticed people with a fireplace smelling like smoke. I like the smell anyway 😅

I miss having a real fireplace! Depends what would you use too. Cedar is my favorite.
I have an electric one now that heats our house. No smell 🙁 I miss it
