Black Friday Baby
My sweet baby girl Drew came at 1:36 today. Drew was due on December 5. I was having contractions for the last two weeks and even thought she would come on Nov 22 but she decided to cook a little longer.
On the night before thanksgiving I slept all the way through the night without waking to pee or anything which was extremely unusual. I noticed that the baby was not moving as strongly so I was very nervous all day on Thanksgiving. But by the evening I sat on a recliner that gave my feet a much better elevation and the movement felt back to normal. Then in the middle of the bit I had to poop and when I finished I realized that the baby was moving ALOT. Around 3 AM I texted my husband that contractions we’re getting a bit strong and then less than a minute later my water broke.
Since it was a long day of no naps with my older daughter, I decided that I would drive myself to the hospital and let my husband and daughter sleep in till I knew more. Got to the hospital and was only 4 cm dilated but since my water had broken I had to stay. So they checked me in and ironically we ended up in the same room that I birthed my first child in 3 years ago!
I knew I wanted an epidural but wanted to wait it out till my husband was there, so I went through som pretty gnarly contractions for the next three hours but my mom arrived around 5 to help me through them. Around 6am I called my husband to come up to the hospital with our daughter and started prepping for an epidural. The epidural was accidentally put directly into my vein which resulted in shortness of breath and a ear clog feeling so they had to take it out and start again. But once it was in I was able to sleep and took an hour long nap which got me from 4 to 6cm dilated.
For some odd reason my body stalled out with both of my babies at 6cm so the doctor put me on petocin to help keep things moving. Just 30 minutes after the petocin started I could feel majors pressure like before I got the epidural so the nurse came in to check me and I was 9cm! A contraction later and it was time to push! My mom took my first daughter on a walk around the floor and the calvary of doctors and nurses came in to catch.
I was extremely numb from the epidural but apparently my pushed were working because 1 and a half pushed later our sweet baby was born. Unfortunately she had a cord around her neck so the doctor had to cut it off her and they immediately took her to the rehabilitation station to get some breathing. But within a few minutes she was cleared as doing well and I was able to do skin to skin. My mom brought our oldest back to the room and she was a bit hesitant to engage at first. But after a little timeout from the fits she came to sit next to me on the hospital bed and held her little sister.
Drew Olivia was 5.6lbs and 17 inches. We’re so happy to have her :-)
