Is the trauma of being cheated on the same as being raped?

My brother-in-law's opinion is that the two are the exact same in terms of trauma. I cannot find any evidence to support his claim.
I have experienced both (more than once each) and believe rape was far more traumatizing. I am curious to see how others feel, as this is grounds for me finally cutting contact with this individual. 
*Note: I am not downplaying the emotional trauma of being cheated on, as I 100% know from experience how devastating it can be.

Why are you two comparing trauma anyway? That isn’t healthy and it’s not for anyone to say how traumatic something is unless they’re talking about their own experiences- which still doesn’t negate how someone else perceives their own experiences. It’s not a competition and no one needs to assess whether their trauma was worse than someone else.

No way. Cheating is traumatic of course, but rape is literally a zillion times worse and they aren’t anywhere close to being the same thing either.

Trauma is different in every instance, and for every person. There's no point in comparing it because for some people one of those may be more traumatic than the other or they could be the same. You can't say how traumatic something is just based off what that thing is. It depends on the person.

I don't think it's ever a good idea to compare/contrast. There is always someone else who has it worse. On the surface level, rape would be considered worse, but being cheated on can have a long lasting and damaging impact.

personally i feel like all trauma is different and can't be compared but i guess you could say being cheated on is more of an emotional pain and being raped is a physical AND emotional pain so i would say it's worse.

I'd say no. Having of gone through both, SA trauma has stuck with me more than when I was cheated on. I got over that. What I can't get over is the fact I've never have been able to have "first times" with any guy I've ever been with, I've never been able to give that to someone. It impacts my sleep still, it impacts my mind, it impacts me with my partner. I can forgive if my husband were to message another girl. I couldn't forgive if he raped me. SA is way more traumatizing than cheating. But comparing trauma is fucked up.

Being raped imo is far worse than being cheated on yes your loved one left for someone else but being forced to have sex and most cases the rapist doesn't get jail time is far more sever than cheating
