Things that annoy me as a mental health professional

I feel like I'm gonna make some people angry but there are so many things that annoy me as a mental health professional.

1. People who aren't mental health professionals diagnosing themselves or other people. There's nothing that annoys me more than that. Not everything means you or someone has OCD or ADHD or personality disorder etc, etc, etc. There was a dumb tiktok that said a sign of ADHD is liking cookies..... What?

2. People throwing around words/diagnos that they clearly don't know the meaning of. Biggest one is narcissist. I fully believe most people don't know what a narcissist is. Ego+asshole doesn't equal narcissist. Almost EVERYONE has narcissist tendencies, however narcissist personality disorder is rare. If someone is a narcissist because they have narcissist tendencies then we are ALL narcissist. A guarantee most of the people that people call narcissist would NOT be diagnosed with narcissist with NPD if they saw an actual professional. Also the word sociopath and psychopath. Honestly throwing that word around is just offensive because people with Antisocial personality disorder doesn't equal horrible abusive person. We walk among "psychopaths" everyday who are simply just trying to live their life like normal people.

3. People using their mental health as an excuse to treat people poorly. I have empathy for people, however when all you can say it, "I have borderline personality disorder" "I'm bipolar" "I have PTSD" whenever someone calls you out on treating them badly, it's wrong. And you are still accountable for your own actions. I know getting help is so hard at times, but if you can use it as an excuse every time you do something wrong, the issue isn't someone not being able to get help. The issue is they simply don't want to take accountability. Its basically saying "Because I have these issues, my mental health is more important than yours and you have to destroy your mental health putting up with behavior I don't want to seek help for".

4. Sorry just thought of another one. The romanticizing and fetishising of mental disorders in the media.
