DIY advent calendar or store bought? (for kids)

For those who celebrate Christmas.. I'm noticing a lot of those home made advent calendars all over Instagram. I always grew up with just a store bought one filled with chocolates and I have such find memories. I never even knew of home made ones lol.. now that I have kids I am not sure what to do. I'm curious what other people do here.

I had store bought growing up too. 
Recent years my husband and I have been buying each other fun store bought ones. We’ve done a coffee one, a tea one, and this year he’s doing a Lego one lol

I got my daughter a My Little Pony one with little figurines this year, the diy ones can get VERY expensive.

I always got a specific German brand from the store as a kid and I had been buying it for my daughter too. I could find it pretty readily up until last year. This year and last I’ve had to get a different brand, but it’s still store-bought chocolate.

We just have a fabric one that I fill with a chocolate coin each day, as it worked out cheaper with my son's allergies
