Random EMS question: if an emergency responder is on its way somewhere and sees an accident occur - do they stop?
Saw an ambulance and randomly thought of it. Like do they keep going to the call they were originally called to, or do they stop to help whoever was in the accident?

They have to respond to the original call and another ambulance will take care of the accident

Not sure if it varies but place to place but where I am they would respond to the initial call unless the issue they are passing is more urgent. So for example if they are on the way to a call about a broken hip on a conscious and stable person amd passed a wreck where several cars were all destroyed and there is going to be severe injuries or even fatalities they would stop at the wreck and call in to have another ambulance dispatched to the non urgent call. If they were responding to a call with unknown info or was urgent then they would container on by and alert their dispatch there is an issue that needs ems immediately.  Dispatch can also reroute if they have a urgent call come in and a ambulance that isn't going to a immediate need call is in the area. They will call and tell them the new assignment and reassign an ambulance. Not sure if it is the same everywhere of course though

It varies depending on the agency.  In my region they continue to the original incident and notify so a new unit can be dispatched to the one they came across.  They get in trouble if they stop without being authorized - which that authorization happens almost never.

Depends. More often than not, yes, the ambulance will stop and another will be sent to their original call. If they have a patient in the back, they are supposed to stop, make sure there are no life threats they can manage and wait for the next truck to arrive. If they have a critical patient, often they’ll just call it in to dispatch with a rough size up of the situation and continue their transport.
