Adhd is treatable, ugh!!

Erin

I searched adhd on here as I recently switched medications and the effects are truly amazing for me… adderall to now vyvanse, but the search results are so disappointing. All parents saying I think my kid has adhd but I don’t want medication for them. The effects of not medicating a kid with adhd are truly debilitating.. anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addictions, dangerous behaviors, struggles with friendships and later jobs and relationships, shorter lifespan. The stigma against medication for adhd is so strong and so baffling. Why would you put your kid through hell growing up only for them to be posting, why didn’t I get treated earlier, things could have been so different. I’ve spend tens of thousands on treatment for an eating disorder and trauma that was a direct result of having undiagnosed adhd. My childhood is summed up with, if she only applied herself. Since starting medication, I’ve gotten a full time case management job that challenges me daily with tasks and organization and yet I just got employee of the quarter. I have been in a relationship with an incredible guy since 2 weeks after diagnosis and we are about to celebrate 2 years together. My life is so different and so very much better and fuller because of medication. I’ve been off antidepressants thanks to my adhd medication too. I don’t regret these last 2 years one bit, but I regularly grieve for the 3 decades I spent wondering why everything was so much harder for me.
