Confused if I should send my Dad and step mother a Christmas gift?

I’ll attach the text between her and I. For context, we live in different parts of the world so I was going to get a hamper delivered to them.

What would you do? I feel like they really don’t want the gift but also the text is a little confusing too?

Why don’t you just call your dad directly instead of communicating through her?

I would just send it LOL. To me, parents do this because they don't want their kids to feel obligated to buy them something for Christmas

My mom always says 'don't waste your money buying me gifts' but I know when I do and she says 'why would you do this?!' that she actually appreciates it. She knows the financial hardship that we are all going through right now especially due to the COVID recession but the thought is always appreciated by her. So do what you feel comfortable. If you can happily afford to get them a gift then I would.
