if you’re a SAHM, how much does your husband help out?

Question

does he help clean, help with kid/s at night? how often does he get a break from work and kids? does he pick up any errands out of home?
what are your duties outside of watching the kids while your husband works? how often do you get a break?

Answer

The way we consider it, his job is at the office 9-5, and my job is home with the kids 9-5. Outside those hours, we share all responsibilities related to the house and kids. We obviously each have different jobs that we gravitate towards more (I cook and do food shopping, he does more garden work and house repairs, etc). We have a daily to do list, and we each add things to it as we see that they need to get done. I do as much as I can during the day, but my primary responsibility is taking care of the kids.
As far as breaks, we just try to be in tune with each other’s needs and keep communication open. If I can tell when my husband gets home that he’s had a tough day, I will tell him to go take some quiet time to unwind or maybe if there’s a task I was going to ask him to do, I’ll see if I can let it slide until the next day. Similarly if he gets home and I’ve had a hard day with the kids, he’ll offer to wear the baby while the toddler has dinner so I can have some quiet time. 
Breaks are a little harder for me right now because I’m breastfeeding a newborn, but before she was born we regularly took turns sleeping in on the weekends, or going out with friends at night.

It has varied by the age of our kids. When they were little, he did more because there are more demands with the kids, especially with nursing and toddler mischief. Now my youngest is 4 so I do most of it. But I adamantly believe in teaching children family responsibility of the household as a value. It shouldnt be that everyone is a slob and mom picks up after us, and that includes the husband. So we do family chores time, kids and husband included, even if just for 20 mins a couple times a week. He will also help me deeper clean the kitchen once or twice a week like wipe down the counters and organize because I have ADD so the kitchen organization overwhelms me. We order groceries online, but he will pick things up in between if needed.

My husband does everything I do, he cleans, takes care of our baby, plays with her all evening… while I cook he is with her, he puts her down or I do it doesnt really matter. He runs errands after work for me, and he tells me when he knows I need to relax and I’ll go take a hour bath. He does grocery shopping too. 
He does every single thing I do - and he works a 9-5 type job. And soon he’ll be picking up a second job he was offered… 
Which makes it so he is literally providing more than we ever thought he could 
and I know he’ll still do the same.

I’m not a SAHM but I’m on maternity leave for the year. I try to do as much as possible during the day that I can while taking care of a newborn like laundry, grocery shopping, prepping dinner etc. Once he gets home from work everything is pretty much taken care of during the week. We split evening responsibilities, if he puts our toddler to bed then I’ll put the baby to bed, that kind of thing. If either of us has had an especially exhausting night or day, then the other will just pick up the slack without needing to be asked. I don’t see it as helping out- we’re a partnership and we work together to raise our kids and maintain a household. Neither of us really get or want a break, the evenings are our time when the kids are asleep and we can hang out together and have some quiet time

He helps with the kids and cleaning sometimes he will cook but I mostly do it but when he's home he's helping with everything

My husband is equally responsible for all household tasks such as cleaning, cooking, etc when he is home. He doesn’t “help out”, he lives here and raises our child. If he sees that the laundry needs to be done, or floor swept, or dinner cooked he’ll just do it. 
This has looked different at points, like when I was deep in ppd, he did all of the cleaning and cooking in addition to working so I could solely focus on myself and baby. That’s what we needed to do at that time so he did it.

No, I do all of the cleaning even when he's off but he does help with the kids at night if he's around. 
He gets breaks if he goes out with friends but other than that not really unless he goes to take a bath here and there, I get breaks when he lets me watch my shows in our room or if he goes to the store with the kids. Shopping and what not we both do together or each of us takes the kids on certain days.
