Take 800mg of Motrin before. I did not do that for the saline sonogram I did after the HSG and it was extremely more painful. Just my personal experience.

I had light bleeding for a few hours after the test and sharp cramps for 20 seconds when they inserted the dye. Everyone is different. Just stay calm and relax when you get it and you'll be fine!

Everyone is SO different! I made sure to take a pain reliever before going, and took a pad with me. The procedure itself was pretty painful for me, but it was over very fast. I did, however, have SUPER heavy bleeding for 10 full days after. I had an ultrasound to make sure everything was good and it was. But I hear a lot of women say they just lightly spot. It's not as horrible as I thought, just like intense menstrual cramps when they insert the catheter through the cervix. Good luck!!

Hello! The prep wasn't bad...but the actual procedure was extremely painful for me, but luckily the painful part only lasted less than a minute. Afterward I had some mild cramping, but nothing bad. I had heard some women don't feel pain at all, but it was pretty terrible for that minute or two!! I didn't have any blockages...I had heard it may be more painful if you do. Good luck!!

It wasnt bad for me. I get really bad menstrual cramps normally so this procedure was weak in comparison.  Definitely not comfortable and recommend taking some advil before hand, but its done so quickly and the pain stops as soon as the procedure is done. I didnt bleed either...just leaked iodine for a few hours. Good luck!
