Pediatrician?

When should I start calling around for a pediatrician? I’m due in February and I’m a first time mom I didn’t even know I needed to do it while pregnant until I got told by a labor and delivery nurse. She didn’t tell me when to start looking for one though.

I’d choose one now just so you know. You’ll call them while you’re in the hospital and they’ll schedule an appointment for a day or 2 after you are discharged.

You could start looking now. When I was pregnant with my first we made an appointment with the pediatrician during pregnancy just to get to know them. 
Also you can call your hospital your delivering at and ask how things work. At my hospital they ask you who your pediatrician is when you give birth. Then the hospital contacts the pediatrician for you, they send a pediatrician to visit with baby in the hospital, and set up an appointment for after discharging from the hospital.

Now. We were asked who our pediatrician was while at the hospital and our first appointment for him was 2 days after discharge

you couldn’t start looking now or next month. doctors appointments for babies come fast! when baby is 2 weeks they will need to be seen by a pedi so it’s better to have one already in plan

I would start now. Most offices will readily take new babies, but this will help ensure you like the office.

It doesn't hurt to start now. Before my 1st kid was born, I figured out which clinic I wanted to take my daughter to, but didn't decide on a specific pediatrician (the clinic has 5 peds Drs to choose from). Then, for her 1st few visits, I just kept switching which one of the drs in that clinic I went to until I found one that I really liked. 🤷‍♀️
