How many baby clothes do you take to the hospital?

I started packing my baby's hospital bag, when I realized I have no idea what and how many pieces of baby clothes to take to the hospital.. Any ideas?

I the just the going home outfit. My first kid stayed in the hospital with me for 5 days and she was just in a diaper with a blanket and hat the whole time. The umbilical cord is still hanging out there, so we didn't really clothe our kid much until that fell off.

I'm taking 4 going home worthy outfits. I'm due in prime snow time and want to have several outfits incase we end up staying at a hotel or something for a bit...I'm delivering out of town about an hour and a half from my home, so I thought it would be a good idea to have extra of everything just in case

I plan to bring 3 outfits. I'm hoping for a vbac,  but if I have a cesarean again, I'll be in the hospital an extra day. My hospital has no issues with me putting clothes on baby. If we need a longer stay or more clothes for some reason, I'll just send my husband or other family to bring some back to the hospital.

My hospital provides diapers, wipes and formula.. Im taking like 3 outfits, hats, socks and mittens. Blankets and burp clothes...!

It depends on how long you plan to stay really.. I'm having a planned c-section, so I'll be there for about 3 days... I'm bringing 8 outfits, 3 hats, 4 pairs of mittens and socks. The hospital will supply burp rags and swaddling blankets. If you are having a regular delivery, you should only need like 2 outfits, a pair of mittens, a hat, and a pair of socks. Hope this helps!

Many hospitals don't let you put clothes on the baby. My hospital provided side snap t shirts for my son, a blanket, and a hat.  They feel that in case of an emergency, they need to be able to get the baby's clothes off immediately.  I didn't put any of his own clothes on him until we were going home.  He was also a summer baby, so I really didn't need much.  This time around, I will definitely bring my own hats and socks. He was swaddled in the hospital, so I didn't really need the gloves to protect his face.

I have two coming home outfits (one newborn and one 0-3) and three sleepers in each newborn and 0-3 size just in case! I'd rather be over packed than under packed

My hospital also said that while he is in the hospital he can only wear what is provided by them. I am going to pack two outfits - one in newborn size and one in 0-3 months in hopes that one of them will fit :-)
